RicStar's Camp - Michigan

The purpose of this camp is to provide opportunities for musical expression, enjoyment and interaction for all people with special needs and their siblings.

RicStar's Camp is held in honor of my son, Eric Richard Winter, who had cerebral palsy and a remarkable gift for music. Under the skill and heart of the Community Music School Music Therapy Clinical Services Program, part of the College of Music at Michigan State University , Eric was composing music shortly before he passed away in 2003 at age twelve. Because music added much to Eric's life, our family directed all memorial gifts to the Community Music School to begin the Eric 'RicStar' Winter Music Therapy Camp, of which I am co chair.

RicStar's Camp provides life-changing opportunities for musical expression, movement, performance and social interaction for all people with special needs and their siblings in a welcoming summer camp setting focused on ability and inclusion. This ground-breaking, fun camp experience speaks to the power of music to change lives, as it honors my son's incredible life and legacy. To learn more about RicStar's Camp, please download the camp brochure and view the camp DVD.
