The Treasure Valley Down Syndrome Association (TVDSA) was founded in the early 1980s by Billie Paetel and other parents who had children with Down syndrome. Their goal was to provide support and information, especially to new parents.

Today, TVDSA continues to offer encouragement, support, and information. Anyone is welcome to attend bi-monthly meetings to get information and we have an annual picnic in June for members and their families. A variety of speakers have addressed the parents about topics such as child development, school, family, and medical issues.

The mission of TVDSA is to improve the quality of life for people with Down Syndrome by promoting understanding and acceptance through support and education as well as participation in local and national events that raise awareness.

Awareness – TVDSA strives to educate the community about the value and diversity of talents and abilities of those with Down syndrome in our community. Members of our organization work, volunteer, and serve on boards in related fields of service such as Special Olympics, The Idaho Infant-Toddler Program, Targeted Service Coordination, Head Start, and other Developmental Programs.

Affiliation – Through our national affiliation with NDSS (National Down Syndrome Society) and several local groups, TVDSA stays current on local and national events, seminars and workshops. TVDSA also has access to literature, tapes and other media regarding research, current medical information, legislation and Down syndrome itself.
